Salt Therapy

How Salt Therapy Works

Salt therapy is a drug-free and completely natural therapy for treating respiratory and skin conditions. Salt therapy has no side effects and is suitable for all ages. Salt therapy originated 200 years ago in the natural undergound salt mines in Eastern Europe. In the 1950s, scientific studies were proving how effective salt therapy is in treating respiratory ailments. Manmade, above-ground Saltrooms provided a controlled environment, and Salt therapy became a new option for respiratory treatment.

Salt Wellness Centre’s salt rooms have been engineered to simulate the micro-climate found in natural salt caves. During each 45 minute session a specialized medical device grinds pharmaceutical grade salt into microscopic particles and disperses them into the room. The device also imparts a negative charge to the salt particles, releasing the beneficial negative ions.

These particles are small enough to be inhaled into the deepest part of the lungs and penetrate through the bronchial tree and into the alveoli. Salt Therapy has been shown to eliminate inhaled airborne allergens from the airways with studies showing an estimated efficacy of between 75 – 98%.

Based on clinical studies, inhaling dry salt aerosol reduces inflammation of the whole respiratory tract. When salt particles are inhaled and deposited in the bronchial tree system and on the mucus, the mucus starts to break down and clients find it much easier to remove by coughing. This will improve your immune system and also provide a general sense of well being.

Dry salt aerosol also has anti-bacterial properties and assists in cleansing the microbial flora of the respiratory tract, reducing inflammation of the airways and enabling the restoration of normal mucociliary clearance of the bronchi. This process increases the body’s natural resistance to respiratory tract infections.

Salt therapy is also proven beneficial in the treatment of a number of skin conditions including eczema, psoriais and dermatitis. The salt reduces inflammation on the skin and improves circulation on the skin surface, promoting new collagen production and repair.
